A first dental visit sets the tone for how your child feels about dental care for years to come. A little preparation at home goes a long way toward a smooth, positive first checkup.
Talk About It Simply and Positively
Keep the conversation light. Let your child know the dentist is going to count their teeth and help them stay healthy and strong. Avoid words that might sound scary, even if you mean them kindly — "it won't hurt" can introduce a worry that wasn't there before.
What to Expect at Fresca Dental
Our team uses age-appropriate language and an intraoral camera to show your child what we see, one step at a time. Most first visits include a gentle exam and time for your child to get comfortable in the chair. Our office is stocked with blankets, pillows, toys, a movie theater, and kids' video games to help keep the mood light.
Questions We're Happy to Answer
- What should my child eat or avoid before the visit?
- Can I stay in the room during the exam?
- What if my child has never been to the dentist before?
Every question is a good one — we'd rather you ask than worry. Learn more about our approach on our Pediatric Dentistry page, or call our Dallas office to schedule your child's first visit.
